Very nice hotel with friendly staff. Just two minutes from the M25, so ideal for a stop off. Two choices for food in either the bar or restaurant. Never used the leisure facilities.

Really enjoyed my 2 night stay here 2 months ago. Room service was efficient. Parking was a breeze. My only issue was the distance from town centre, however I knew that when I booked it so can't very well complain about that can I?! The staff were great and the room was good too. The room overlooked fields and trees so was pleasant to wake up in.

Friendly staff. Some rooms a lot smaller tjan you think. Good cooked breakfast. Bar also on the expensive side but again friendly staff. Also a good car wash on site starting from £7.00

The hotel had plenty of parking, the food is very good, breakfast, or evening meal is superb. The gym has good equipment and a nice pool & sauna. The room were not spotless but clean. The hotel was hot, really hot, it was early July and hot. They did have a fan in the room but the windows could only open 30cm and allowed zero breeze. I stayed for a week, and the worst part was each day the maids closed the windows, the afternoon sum pushed my room up to 32, try sleeping in that. I am sure winter it would be fine, its really time UK hotels started looking more in AC. However I would recommend and use again.

Great food, served piping hot every time. Very old worldly, with a slight aroma of grandparents home of the 70s so quite nostalgic for me. Would stay again.

Un renovated premises..albeit in reasonable condition, neat, clean and tidy. Restaurant menu sounds great, but taste did not meet expectations..

This hotel is a little tattered in places, it has several nooks and crannies and it is right next to a busy roundabout. When we were there, there was a wedding, an incident requiring 8 police cars and a brief fire alarm in the morning. BUT, the place has charm, it's well staffed and they handled it well. They also kept their calm and made everyone else calm. The beds are good, the rooms are good/OK (with charm) and there is a decent pub and restaurant as well as a nice garden. I liked this place a lot. It will stick with me.

Great hotel, staff very friendly, problem with our room was sorted out very quickly. Food in the pub was lovely and the breakfast was perfect for a day of sightseeing and great fuel for the amount of walking we did. We would definitely stay again if we were visiting the area! Thank you!

Stayed for three nights and even though the room is a bit dated and the shower head had a leak which sprayed my face every time I had a shower..the only thing to let it down was the walls and ceilings. Theyre not insulated enough and can hear everything from people walking around to the person above belching. Besides that the staff are phenomenal! Every single member of staff makes you feel welcome and will do everything to make you feel comfortable, from the chef in the avocado lounge serving delicious and some of the tastiest dishes I've had, to the amazing Peter and Harry behind the bar, I'd like to thank them for their amazing hospitality and their friendly presence. Was nice to have that when away from home for a short while alone. If I am down this way again I will be back. And if you read this Peter, good luck with the wedding I wish you all the best!!

7

Stayed for two nights over the Easter weekend. The food and drink at the hotel was really good but it is the staff that made it for us, they were all really friendly and happy to help with any questions we had! My only critiscm would be the communication between the hotel and leisure facility staff. The gym and pool are owned by a seperate company and there was a lack of understanding on the opening times!

I attended a Ball hosted by my hospital Trust in December 2017. We used the banquet Hall and the catering services. The hall was large and spacious, it was well heated since we were having the ball during the winter months. The Service was welcoming and sociable. Staff were courteous and approachable, it was altogether a pleasant evening at a warm and accommodating venue.

Pleasant room and staff. Gym/pool facilities are good, a little on the small side but ideal for a quick work out. Gym is well equipped. Tv's a little unresponsive and old in the rooms but everything else fine.

Went here for our works Christmas party last night. This took place in the marquee in the hotel grounds. Tables were a little cramped. Food was great and service was good. All very reasonably priced. There was a bar in the marquee which was well run and the music kept us all (a range of ages and tastes) dancing all night.

Went here after the Harry Potter tour, for a night stay arranged by my parents for a birthday surprise. The reception staff were really friendly and helpful from the get go. The room was amazing, plenty of space and well looked after and clean. I used the pool while I was there really well kept and clean again with friendly staff on hand to help out. The meal we had that night was good and the staff even sorted out a birthday cake for me which was a lovely surprise. In all the hotel was top quality and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Will defferntly be recommending to friends and family who go to Watford.

Staff was very nice, the room was clean. There was noise throughout the whole night and the fire alarm went off at 6am for about 5 seconds by accident - so I left with varied feelings.

Tired and dated hotel. Very close to very busy, noisy road junction. Kettle in room didn't work. TV had very poor quality picture. Room tidy. Free but unencrypted WiFi is hard to recommend connecting to. Breakfast was ok.

You have to enjoy this place for a couple reasons. First is the breakfast in the morning. True French press coffee is the standard coffee they serve you (see photo below). The breakfast is really really nice.

Have the steak burger in the pub. Totally solid.
These guys are trying, and if they keep putting money in this place will be truly great.

Gardens are a HUGE plus when you deal with 1's and 0's all day.

Would stay again no hesitation.

We were woken several times in the night by people talking and shouting in the corridors. The sound proofing clearly wasnt that good. We were also startled by a fire alarm test that weren't warned about in the morning after a very restless sleep. The tv was very dusty and some channels were unavailable.

Hotel is nice enough but there are lot of things that make this hard to recommend.

There is a lot to like, the food is genuinely tasty and the staff are overall very friendly.

However there are many glaring flaws with this hotel.

The walls of the rooms are paper thin. I could hear the movie the guests in the room next to me were watching and I knew they didn't have the volume up to high. I could also hear the conversations that were had in the rooms ajoining mine.

Many of the rooms overlook the hotels refuse collection area and I have been woken by the sound of the barstaff throwing bottles away.

If you stay in one of these rooms you also get the smell of garbage wafting into your room.

This place is in desperate need of some TLC and as a business traveller I can't recommend it as the most important thing is a good night's sleep, something this hotel cannot gurentee.

Lovely old interior to the building, staff were very helpful (specially Becky), and very friendly. I like that it's a bit of a rabbit warren, much better than modern giant sheds with no soul.

Nice meeting rooms too.

Overall we had a lovely stay. Some of the rooms are a little dated in appearance but are kept clean and tidy. The breakfast is on par with other hotels offering full English and continental etc. Can't say about full evening menu but if the bar meals are anything to go buy then it will be nice.

I visited this hotel recently for an overnight stay with a party of forty people and enjoyed it.The staff were very nice, the room was lovely, clean and perfect for an overnight stay. We enjoyed a beautiful evening meal and breakfast next day was just as nice. They had a very good choice and it was hot not warm.
Unfortunately I think they need to look at the booking in process for large groups. We had to line up and wait which meant that quite a few were outside which wasn't very good.
The outside of the building could do with a spruce up too.
I would recommend this hotel to people as the two negatives in my review didn't affect my stay at all.

The hotel staff were pleasant and helpful. The room was tidy and well furnished with comfortable chairs as well as a firm mattress. The breakfast buffet had plenty of options and the hot options were actually hot, which isn't always the case at hotel buffets.

Popped in to meet my Dad for lunch and a beer. Service was good and I must say I had one of the best mushroom soups ever. The only thing that let the meeting down was that one part of the downstairs was being redecorated, whilst the other was being arranged for a conference which involved a steady stream of staff with stacked chairs being dragged around. Apart for those two minor things, everything was fine and I would recommend the hotel for others.

Rooms were clean, but cramped and in need of modernisation. It was very warm with the heating off and window open. We were missing the rooms hair dryer, which took two steps from reception to get.the bar was reasonably priced and the marquee tent decent but the staff were quite acerbic and grumpy

Decent hotel for the night. Quite run down and the staff were mainly eastern European. The room was spacious although the walls were tissue paper thin and I could literally hear the guy in the next room snoring! Decent location for St Albans but very busy outside traffic wise.

This hotel is listed as a 4 star hotel but it is more a 3 star. The restaurant has a very limited menu with only one vegetarian dish. Otherwise it is clean and tidy but some rooms are noisy and there is no air conditioning.
